Navy to Christen the Littoral Surface Craft – Experimental
(X-Craft) Sea Fighter

The Navy will christen the experimental X-Craft “Sea Fighter” and
designate it as the first Fast Sea Frame, Saturday, Feb. 5, during a
noon PST ceremony at Nichols Bros. Boat Builders, Whidbey Island,
Wash.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee,
will deliver the principal address. His wife, Lynne Hunter, is the
ship’s sponsor. In the time-honored Navy tradition, she will break a
bottle of champagne across the bow to formally christen the ship "Sea
Fighter."

The high-speed, experimental vessel will test a variety of
technologies that will allow the Navy to operate more effectively in
littoral, or near-shore, waters. Sea Fighter will be used to evaluate
the hydrodynamic performance, structural behavior, mission
flexibility, and propulsion system efficiency of high-speed vessels,
and will also serve as a test bed for developmental mission packages.
It will serve as a “risk reduction,” experimental vessel for the
Littoral Combat Ship and Coast Guard’s Deepwater Program concept of
operation development at sea.

The keel of the aluminum catamaran was laid in June 2003, is 262 feet
in length and displaces 950 tons. The ship has a beam of 72 feet and a
navigational draft of 11.5 feet. Two gas turbine engines, two
propulsion diesels and two waterjets will power Sea Fighter to speeds
reaching 50 knots. The Sea Fighter’s crew will consist of 16 Navy
sailors and 10 Coast Guardsmen.

For more information and graphics of the Sea Fighter, please visit the
Office of Naval Research website at

Rumsfeld Avoids Germany & War Crimes Prosecution

Published on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 by Agence France Presse
Rumsfeld Mulls German Visit Amid Concern Over Possible War Crimes
Prosecution

WASHINGTON - Concern that US leaders and military personnel risk
prosecution in Germany for alleged war crimes has become a factor in
deciding whether US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will attend an
international security conference in Munich, a Pentagon spokesman said.

Pentagon spokesman Lawrence DiRita said it remains to be determined
whether Rumsfeld will attend the Munich meeting...

Rumsfeld was among ten high-ranking US civilian and military officials
named in a criminal complaint filed November 30 with a German federal
prosecutor by a US legal rights group seeking an investigation into the
Americans' role in the torture and abuse of detainees in Iraq .

Under Germany's Code of Crimes Against International Law, which was
introduced in 2002, German courts have universal jurisdiction in war
crimes and crimes against humanity.

Acknowledging US concern about the German law, DiRita told AFP, "It's a
factor in the decision" on whether Rumsfeld attends the Munich
conference.

... New York-based Center For Constitution Rights, which filed the
initial complaint, said Friday it has filed new documents in the case,
contending that Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzalez had
implicated himself in war crimes in Iraq, including torture at Aby
Ghraib, in his Senate confirmation testimony...

Never forget "Shock and awe", the bombing of Bhagdad - the dropping
thousands of 500 pound bombs in the greater Bhagdad area - because of
the sins of one man. Killing tens of thousands of women and children -
who did nothing to us, who had nothing to do with 9-11, whose greatest
crime is that they were sitting on the world's second largest oil
reserves.

If dropping thousands of bombs on such people isn't classified as a
crime then whatever system fails to label it a crime is filthier than
the pipes of any sewage system on earth.
