22 Mar 1962 to 30 Apr 1962
The overthrow of Prince Norodom Sihanouk by General Lon Nol in Cambodia was orchestrated by the United States under the promise by Lon Nol to order all North Vietnamese from Cambodia soil, to which the NVA balked but agreed to leave at
their own speed. Meanwhile the NVA continued to launch major attacks from Cambodia across South Vietnam's western border of which the United States was prevented by international agreement not to violate.. Operation Patio was devised to
both terminate harassive NVA attacks while at the same time hasten their departure from Cambodia. Coordinated United States air and ground missions during Operation Patio succeeded in achieving that objective.
