Does anyone have detailed breakdown instructions for the M-1 Garand rifle????

You are looking for the the various FMs from WW2 for those details. To field strip, unload the rifle and verify that it is safe. Cycle the action to cock the hammer. Grab the small loop at the rear of the trigger guard and pull it to the rear and downward. You may need a small screwdriver or rod through the hole to give you enough grip. The entire trigger group will now pull free out of the bottom of the weapon. The upper and the wooden stock will now also easily be separated from each other. The metal hardware can be removed from the stock and the stock refinished as needed. I've never taken the forward wooden handguard from mine, so I don't know how. If these are ceremonial guns furnished by the US government, you may be able to obtain repair parts at low or no charge, or even trade them in for replacements. Good question. I was really surprised to see the original question. On the

Last I read in Defense News the plan was to find foreign sources for these
subs; according to this week's copy, the Navy has already put together a list of options for Taiwan to consider, and no further action will be taken until they have studied these and select their preferred course of action. The article inferred that suppliers have already been contacted during the development of the options. So I am not sure of the veracity of your conclusions here...
