I hope this is an appropriate place to ask.  My father was in the Royal
Canadiam Navy for the duration of WWII and he would like me to find a site
on the net (www, ftp, gopher, whatever) where he could get information about
the fleet during the war, specifically, the names, home ports and dates of
commision, decommision (or sinking, if applicable).  He has looked in the
local library but can't find what he's looking for and he hopes it's out
here on the net.  Replies would be prefered via e-mail, since I don't read
news too often these days.

The Iowa and Wisconsin are still at Philadelphia, and the New Jersey and
Missouri are in Bremerton, WA. The Navy is keeping them "plugged in"
until they are sold, because fortunately, it looks like most if not
all will be preserved as museums.

Here's my personal prediction on their ultimate fates:

Iowa - Looks like she will go to the Patriot's Point museum in South
       Carolina.

New Jersey - There's an organization in California that wants an Iowa
       class BB in San Diego, and they've got their eye on the New Jersey,
       but if I were a betting man, I'd bet that she'll be returning
       to New Jersey. The Battleship New Jersey Historical Museum Society
       and the state-run Battleship New Jersey Commission are cooperating
       in the effort to bring BB-62 to Liberty State Park in Jersey City,
       right behind the Statue of Liberty. Other possible sites in New
       Jersey include Camden, Bayonne, and Atlantic City, but the Jersey
       City site seems most likely.

Missouri - She's probably headed for Pearl Harbor, HI, to be parked opposite
       the Arizona, to symbolize the beginning and the end of the Pacific War.

Wisconsin - This one's hardest to predict. Maybe the folks in California
       will settle for the Wisconsin? They wanted the New Jersey, because
       they figured that she would be the easiest to tow to California.
       There have also been rumors that BB-64 might end up in Newport News, VA
       or maybe at the shipbuilding museum in Quincy MA.
