Assunto: Re: SPOILER Rule Makes No Sense
Dear Mier...

Interesting post.  However I care to disagree and here is why.  First
the Spoiler rule was invented long before I came to this newsgroup.  THe
people at that time felt it was a rule they would like implimented.  We
should hold a referendum and see if this generation of the RSB wants to
kill or keep the bill.  Still my vote would be to keep the rule.  As for
one I want to say I spend a lot of my free time in the RSB.  For me
unlike other posters this place is my hang out.  These people in here
are who I choose to hang out with...yes it is pathetic but it keeps me
out of trouble and by my family.  Last weekend my American comardes were
fortunate to see the Paz fight live.  I however along with 27 million
other Canadians had to wait for the oppurtunity 24hrs later on our
sports channel.  Now there was no way in hell my pathetic carcus could
stay away for oneday from the RSB just to not have the Paz fight
spoiled. I did come to the RSB and the fight wasn't spoiled for me
untill the thrid rd of the fight...you see I was logged onto the RSB
while watching the fight and finally noticed Ryan's thread with the
fight results in the title.(Oddly enough all that day I hadn't noticed
Ryan's thread)  Yeah it was a coincident...and no it isn't weird the i
chee watch TV and use the internet at the sametime...me chewing buble
gum and thinking at the sametime is a different story.  My point is I am
a die hard fan of boxing and a die hard fan of the RSB.  I feel it is
common courtesy to remember other RSB nembers and that they enjoy this
board immensly and the sport but are constricted by their viewing
abilities due to the country they reside in.  Ofcourse I wouldn't go to
a pub and expect the people to remain quiet or talk in a corner about
the fight...but this is a different medium and through the wonders of
computers this way of communication can be guided in a method that is
suitable for all others.  I feel sometimes people post the winners in
the title to have the satisfaction of knowing they were the first to
spill the beans...it is rather selfish in my opinion.  Excellent debate
Mier, but my vote is for the spoiler rule to stay intact.

Paulie Ayala! He beat a top ten p4pounder in Johnny Tapia. Number 2?
W.Klitschko with his kayo of loud mouth Herbie Hide. This puts him in
the top 6 in the heavyweight division. Number three? Is it Roy Jones Jr.
for unifying the LH title? No, it would be Johnny Tapia! He showed much
more heart and determination, while displaying similar speed and
technique as Roy Jones Jr in losing the barn-burner to Ayala!

Lewis and Holyfield rematch date set

BY SRIKUMAR SEN, BOXING CORRESPONDENT

THE rematch between Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield for the undisputed
world heavyweight championship will be staged in Las Vegas on November 13 -
providing that Don King supplies the purse for Holyfield.
HBO, the American cable television company that had backed the first bout
last March, will guarantee no longer the purses of both boxers, only Lewis's
$15 million. "We put up the money last time. This time Don King must take
the risk. He will have to find around $20 million," Seth Abraham, the
president of HBO, said yesterday in London.

However, a dispute between Lewis's promotion company, Panix, and King must
be resolved before contracts can be signed. Panos Eliades, head of Panix,
said that King still owes the London company $2 million from the March
promotion. King is expected in London this weekend for talks and it is
believed that he will agree to find the money for the bout at the Thomas and
Mack Arena. "King wanted us to forget about the $2 million because Lennox is
getting $15 million for the rematch, but Lennox said we shouldn't let him
off as the first fight has nothing to do with the second," Eliades said.

Naseem Hamed will defend his World Boxing Organisation featherweight title
on October 2 in the United States. HBO is looking for a top opponent and the
two under consideration are Manuel Medina, the International Boxing
Federation champion, and Cesar Soto, who holds the World Boxing Council
belt. Both have priced themselves out of the contest by asking for more than
$1 million. But as Hamed wants to meet Soto, another offer is to be made to
him. Hamed has not fought since injuring his left hand in beating Paul Ingle
in April.

Emmanuel Steward, of the United States, has replaced Oscar Suarez, of Puerto
Rico, as the champion's chief trainer. Steward will also be in Lewis's
corner for the return with Holyfield.

Shea Neary, the World Boxing Union light-welterweight champion, could get
his chance to make a name in the United States. HBO is prepared to back a
contest between the Liverpool-based Irishman and Arturo Gatti on St
Patrick's Day in Boston.
