anyone have any thing on this boxer from st pete, fla?

As far as I've heard, Winky has been campaigning as a jr. middleweight.

He's also been a sparring partner of Pernell Whitaker, and when his child
became seriously ill, Whitaker decided to help him out by getting him a
$50,000 fight against him.  The fight was scheduled for Aug 16, on the
undercard of Golata/Mercer on HBO.  Since that fight was cancelled,
Whitaker/Wright was as well.

I've heard that this matchup will now be on the undercard of Golata/Lewis
or Douglas/Ruiz on an upcoming HBO date.  I'm not sure which card it's been
added to.

8-16, Gollotta v. Mercer was Willy Wise from Westbury, N.Y. not Winky
Wright..

  I saw Kitka (at the time undefeated) lose on ESPN2 last summer in a card
in his hometwon but I dont think that it was Winky that is for sure.  You
have confused Kitka with Bronco McKart I think.  That is the Jackie Kallen
fighter that Wright took agart.  While Kitka lost to a fighter with a very
unspectacular record.  Perhaps, it was Verdell Smith it really escapes me
at the moment.  Willy Wise on the other hand beat an undefeated fighter on
ESPN as well.  Cant remember that fighters name but think it might have been
a young guy from Massachusetts.

  This much is true and I believe he has defended the WBO jr. middle title
a couple times that he won in Michigan over Bronco McKart.  I think he has
had a defense in Great Britain over a British fighter but other than that
havent heard that much about him of late.

  Alright just to clear things up the fighter that you are speaking of is
not Wright but rather Willy Wise.  I guess they could be confused but I
really dont know how you managed this but it happens :->

  Douglas/Ruiz would seem like the most viable alternative.  With the
other fights such as Gatti/Ruelas it could be quite easy for SweetPea to
get overshadowed.  Putting it on HBO seems like the more logical step.

Several months back, he took apart a hot young prospect named Craig
Kitka in Kitka's home town on ESPN. I haven't heard anything about Kitka
since. Winky is a very good veteran who I regarded as a journeyman until
he took out Kitka. Winky looks like the kind of guy that boxing needs
more of. A solid boxer who provides a good fight every time he steps in
the ring and isn't a jerk when he wins or a whiner when he loses. Tell
us if the fight is set for another card.
