When did ESPN drop boxing? Tonight they are having the Romero & Saverese
fights. Are they going to drop it for next year?

While I cannot say for certain what Phrank meant, I took it to mean:
ESPN does not have fights with anywhere near the regularity it once did
(weekly).

Dave,

The move to ESPN2 also meant that the quality of the fights and the
production in general is much, much lower. The ring lighting, sound
mix, and even the ring announcers are shoddy.

Predictions for 11/9 card

Assunto: Predictions for 11/9 card

This is another pretty marginal PPV card.  And at $45 it is even more
marginal.  But hell I just paid for Chavez-Gamache, Rosenblatt-Pazienze so
this cards looks pretty good.

Tyson vs Hollyfield - I am not that big of fan of Tyson.  I haven't see
all that much that really impresses me since his return.  Sure he has KOed
people easily but they never really came prepared to fight him.  I also
have noticed that his great defense from before is gone.  He no longer
jabs as much but just relies on his power.  I think that this will not
work against someone who can take his punch and counter or move.  But his
power is probably better than before as he loads up with punches more than
before.  Hollyfield is totally shot.  The fight against Cszyz showed how
little he has left.  I just keep thinking back to how he had Bowe totally
out be couldn't throw any punches.  And he looked better in that fight
than the Cszyz fight.  He has a lot of heart but not much punch and his
defense is bad now.  I just can't see him winning.  The hollyfield that
beat Foreman in '91 would be competitive though with speed and heart.  But
this looks like a KO3.  Those 3 wars with Bowe took a lot out of him.

Moorer vs Botha - This should be a UD12 for sure.  I have heard Moorer say
that he will fight more aggressive.  I will believe it when I see it.
Botha is a very marginal fighter.  I have not seen him beat anyone good
ever.  He has the most padded record.  If he weren't a DK fighter he would
never be this highly ranked.  Many young fighters have taken on much
better than him.  Moorer is about the laziest fighter there is.  He also
has very good skills.  One of the bets jabs in the divison and that
southpaw style if a big advantage.  I see him jabbing the crap out of the
slow Botha.  A late round TKO is possible on cuts.  Botha has very little
power which is the best way to beat Moorer.  I see Moorer UD12.

Zolkin vs Akinwande - I was suprised to see the odds at only 3-1 for this
fight.  Zolkin is a real plodder.  Akinwande looked very good in his win
over Williams.  He has that great reach and is quick.  He also must have
some power as he KOed williams with basically one punch.  Zolkin is a very
conservative fighter.  He just doesn't have very good skills.  But he
tries hard and usually is in shape to go 10+ rounds.  But I think the
speed will be a HUGE advantage here for Akinwande.  I see UD12 or a
possible late round TKO.  I would make Akinwande more like a 5-1 favorite
here.  I am not impressed with Zolkin at this point at all.

Too bad we get to see Christy Martin instead of Lopez.  I will say that I
believe Lopez is one of the best fighters in the world.  He just dominates
everyone so easily.  I would love to see him fight.  Maybe they will show
it, but probably not.

Monte,

No real reason to expect an Akinwande KO.  ANYONE IN THE WORLD COULD KO
JERMEY WILLIAMS.  His chin is made out of eggshell.  Williams is one of
the only heavywights that I have seen get kd'd in SEVERAL of his early
fights and still be regarded as anything.  credit USA and ESPN for this,
as apparetnyl, if they show him KOing Quin Navarre and Arthur Weathers
quickly, then we forget that he was knocked down by MARION WILSON,
Garing Lane, and out-on-his-feet against Everton Davis.

Jeremy Williams was one of the worst fighters to come down they 'young
heavyweight' trail in the last few years.  Any skill he may have ever had
was more than negated by the worst chin in recent memory.

So, Akinwande KO 3 Williams means nothing.  All it means is Jeremy sucks
so bad he can be knocked silly by a fighter who can't hit hard.

Akinwande is not a KO fighter, and if he tries to be,it will be to his
discredit.

Akinwande is not a KO fighter, and Zolkin has never been down or out.
Zolkin's two losses were to boxers (Hunter and Tubbs).  So if I were in
Akinwande's corner, I'd advise him to box Zolkin.  Not only is it
Akinwande's strength, but it is Zolkin's weakness.

David

Bradman has to be sportsman of the century.
The only others to come close that I can think of would be Walter
Lindrum (billiards) and probably Pele.
But I have not heard of anybody dominating their sport to the extent
that Bradman did, and still statistically he is almost twice as good as
anyone elese in his sport.
Honourable mentions for Mohammed Ali and Martina Navratilova.

Most famous, definitely O.J. Simpson, but hardly sportsman of the
century.

Nope, but close.  See below.

This is not a SPORT,            BINGO!
it is a 'recreation',
just like golf.

"WORLD"!!, not Usa, therefore the above person doesn't even make the top 1000
list.

Cheers.
