While looking through old boxing magazines, I came across an interesting
article in the Oct. 1981 issue of The Ring. The article addressed an editorial that had been published in the New York Sun, 52 yrs. earlier when the first poll was conducted to select best pound for pound boxer of that year, 1929. The winner was Mickey Walker. The Ring magazine decided to conduct their own poll in 1981. While looking at the names of the best pound for pound fighters in that poll, I couldn't help but compare it with the current top 10 in the latest Ring magazine. There are talented men on each list, but the boxers in 1981 became great by meeting and beating the best. That's what is wrong with the list on the right. Just nice to see Salvador Sanchez's name again. Brought back great
memories. I always thought, given the chance, he would have been one of the all time greats. No way to compair, but I've always felt Sanchez was more skilled than Duran. I'm always amazed how little recognition he receives. Maybe due to his untimely death. Or maybe he just never had the chance to prove he was not as good as I though. A lot of RSBers would probably not agree, at least from my earlier post
about a similar topic, but I've done all right with Boxing Illustrated, Ring, KO, Boxing 96, and World Boxing in combo. It's expensive, but you don't miss a beat. Besides, I like the format, and variety of the issues. Since its a magazine, you can keep them for reference later. I really Steve Farhood too (I know Alejandro is probably gagging I am going to sample Flash soon, on the advice of fellow RSBers. Stay CW Mayer. É necessário Acessar antes de postar mensagens.
