Re: DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK:WHAT IS CULTURE?CHOOSE THE 4 FACTORS WHICH YOU THINK ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT...

claire <claireletour...@gmail.com>

Hi Ed Pablo and all other silent members,;)

No worries,Ed!

I know it's been hard for you to be multi-tasking...teaching,working
and being a father of a small girl, right?;)

That's why I tried posting those 2 questions myself for the very first
time...

I agree with you that a culture is an ever-changing proccess which is
based on strong ideas and beliefs.

The other 3 most important factors for me are
#7social customs and traditions
#6 cuisine
#2 language

If I may choose another major factor,it should be #9 religion.

In my opinion,a culture is created by people who prepare and eat the
same kind of food, speak the same language, share the same ideas and
beliefs and follow the same social customs and traditions.

All these can be demonstrated or witnessed while attending a region's
ceremonies and festivals! Any outsiders or tourists can feel a strong
connection when they see or are among such huge crowds performing the
same activities at the same time!

A strong sense of bonds with their ancestors or generations(where past
meets the present and the future)thus can be experienced through
repeated rituals!
That's why historical and cultural events in some ancient countries
are so fascinating and draw millions of visitors!

Again,my own 2 cents only!
Please do share with us your own 2 cents, everyone new or old!

Thanks and regards,
Claire
