Fucking unbelievable... after removing Scythe Zipang cpu cooler the motherboard is now unusuable ?!
Because of stupid mounting weak plastic bullshit !
1 millimeter of black plastic was probably already missing when I received the motherboard from a webshop called iComputers which went bankrupt... this was probably an RMA motherboard but still... I can vaguely remember noticing this plastic was slightly missing.
Apperently a miracle I managed to be able to use it the first time... but now a little bit of black plastic probably came off... and now the cpu cooler clips will not attach and hold on ?!
This fucking sux ! I was in a slight hurry but I didn't see anything breaking off what so ever... I used two screwdrivers to slightly wedge the clips from under the black plastic...
This mounting system totally sucks and is truely totally fucking retarded. Can't remember what it was called A1 or something... and the pushpin things seem to suck as well..
What' wrong with just a bunch of screws ?!?!
Well enough said... I need to go do other things unfortunately this is major ass fuck going on right now, Pictures:

Fortunately the stock AMD cooler (which I ofcourse kept and stored!) will still attach and hold just fine ?!
This means it's not entirely AMD to blame but Scythe as well !
There fucking clips are just placed badly... have to go diagonal... it just won't hold those stupid motherfuckers ?!
My god what a mother fuckers !.
Well I am glad that at least the light AMD cooler will hold... maybe with a bit of luck the better airflow in the better new case will be enough to keep it spinning slowly... otherwise I might have to enable cool & quiet again ?!
And this also solves the "heat pipe" issue... I was planning to place the heatpipes of the scythe cooler near the top to see how that would work it... but then little pipes would be at the center of the motherboard... which could still be bad...
So I guess all in all Scyhe Zipang after market cooler might be bad after all ?! Bunch of scamming pissshits !
FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT NOWADAYS ! ;) :) LOL.
Well enough for today must get a haircut ! FUCK IT.
But fortunately my Dream PC not totally dead yet...
I will also try to get a spare part to try and get the scythe pang cooler working again... or maybe I am just gonna say fuck it and screw that piece of shit and stay with the stock amd cooler... depends on how much noise it makes... even if it does make lots of noise I might decide to keep it and be done with it ! ;)

If you paid by credit card, mail a letter to the card issuer at the special address for billing problems, as specified on the back of each card statement. Phoning, e-mailing, or delivering a letter to any other address won't necessarily protect your rights under the Fair Credit Billing Act. Don't believe what the card company tells you about having only 60 days to complain (not always true, plus Amex, Visa, and Mastercard impose their own time limits of at least one year; I don't know about Discover) or not being able to get your money back unless the merchant issues a refund (card issuer is responsible for correcting your bill, whether or not they can collect, and they know this because they require merchants to pay into contingency funds just for that reason). Basically, tell the card issuer that this is a "billing error" (about anything is a billing error, and they have to handle the problem as one if you say it is) and that you don't "accept" the merchandise because it's junk, and you've tried working in "good faith" with the merchant to resolve the issue.
I try to use 3-hole heatsink clips (3 holes on each side, total of 6 holes) to spread out the force and prevent the heatsink from coming loose if just one plastic prong breaks. From your photos, it seems that you may be able to fix that middle prong on the left by cutting a notch into it with a triangular file, but because it's right next to a screw, how about making a metal substitute prong from a rectangular piece of steel that's held by that screw?
To prevent the plastic from being cut by sharp edges of the square holes in the metal heatsink clip, I grind off those edges with a Dremel and a stone cutter (metal is too hard for a file).
3. If you can't fix the plastic or make a substitute metal prong for the broken one, see if you can get another heatsink frame from a place like MCM Electronics, Geeks.com, SVcompucycle.com, or a junked mobo.

All the groups you have invaded have noticed that your brain is "slightly missing".
Stop buying used parts.
Oh, and ALL the places you do buy from are probably familiar with your level of stupidity, and see you coming, and adjust their "service" to you accordingly.
You probably deserve all the shit hardware that you round up.
STOP being a goddamned retarded, cross-posting, Usenet abusing RETARD!

I've installed nothing but Zalman fans and probably have 3 or 4 of those black plastic things someplace. You have to remove them to put on the Zalmans.

1. Sawing/cutting into the plastic would not be a good idea... it would further weaken it and then the stock amd cooler might not even hold on anymore.
2. Metal clips attached to screw probably not gonna work... I might have a little bit of metal wire or a paper clip but I see no possibility of attaching it... the screw also has little room on the end of it... it's very tight fit... also the cpu cooler has to be perfectly attached to cpu otherwise it won't cool properly. So I don't want a shaky solution and this would be a very shaky solution.
Thanks for thinking about solutions anyway it was kinda interesting !
I had two motherboards... I sent one back to webshop... but then didn't give RMA (I already wrote about that in the past)... I didn't ask for the motherboard back because of possible shipping costs or fines or whatever... it's kinda a bummer... because if I still had old dead motherboard then I could have easily replaced the retention clip.
I am still gonna ask them the motherboard back... they kinda owe me since they said it would be fine for RMA replacement... curious if they still have it... probably not... I also wonder about possibly shipping costs...
Anyway before I can do that I need to fix my "Dream/Nightmare PC" first because I want to use the outlook express folders for it to keep messages in sync and stored.
So my only solution for now I using the stock AMD CPU Cooler that came with the processor... Maybe it's better after all...
Scythe admitted that their cooler obstructs airflow which could be bad... Also it might blow dust into the memory chips (new theory from me ;)) and cause short circuits in memory chip :) Or maybe it will blow heat into memory chip... either of those two... Ofcourse could be general failure but I don't really believe that... or maybe these chips were of lower quality and that's why they sent me back two ?!? hmm..
Well I need my computer back online since I don't wanna move my printer and all kinds of shit... and it will be easier to do printing and all kinds of stuff...
It will kinda be interesting to see what the temperatures will be... with the Scythe it was cpu between 35 and 45 degrees... and motherboard 35 to 40 degrees... maybe sometimes 43 or 45 but rarely... most mb to 40 degrees or so...
It depends on how much the pc dust filters are filled/obstructed.
I usually also run fans on 10 to 25% speed or so for low sound... so low to modest airflow...
Local computer store went out of bussiness otherwise maybe they had these retention clips... I also wasted a little bit of artic silver 7 but fortunately I have two tubes or so... and I only need a little bit so that's ok... Now hopefully I don't break anything when trying to press that cooler onto it ;) Probably not... but ya never know... maybe micro fractures ;) :)
Sad sad sad damn machine LOL.(But it is fast and low noise ;))

The stock AMD CPU Cooler has been mounted and is working and slightly humming/zooming for now this is acceptable ;) :)
Cool & Quiet is not yet on... maybe later I turn it on so the cpu fan can spin more slowly for quieter operation...
Currently the temperatures are:
CPU: 30 degrees. Motherboard: 31 to 32 degrees.
Rounds per minute for cpu: 3139. Rounds per minute for power supply: 760.
I am kinda surprised about the low temperatures... I kinda expected it... but not this low ?! ;)
PC has been running for like one hour or so... mostly doing chkdsk and just booting... and idling...
I think the low temperatures can be explained by the improved airflow... the stock AMD CPU cooler is much smaller than the Scythe Zipang... thus the Scythe Zipang was obstructing airflow ?!?
However it's too early to tell what will happen when the system is put under load...
I am also curious about what will happen if cool & quiet is on... and what will happen if the dust filters get full...
The dust filters are currently pretty much empty...
I dripped some oil into the most important fans as well...
And I also blew out some dust from the case... and removed some dust from the case fans... mostly just on the blades...
Fan speed is like 10 to 25% as usual which looks like follows:
Speed knob: \
Diagonal marking from top left to bottom right.
I also did a short memtest of 3 minutes or so to see if any errors detect... none detected. (Bad memory chip has been replaced).
Holding my hand above the top fan almost seems as if it's now able to expell heat better.. but this could be deceiving since my hand will cool down and then it feels warmer but still... it does seem as if the heat can rise more easily towards the top fan... the heat wave looks less wiggly... and possibly going up faster ;) So probably less turbulence in case ;)
Well that's all I have to say for now... me happy again :):):)

I saw CPU temperatures rise to 42 degrees while just watching some you tube video's... makes me wonder what will happen when I play games or run really cpu intensive stuff...
However the motherboard temperature remained pretty stable around 32 or 33 degrees.
Though maybe that will rise under heavy loads as well... hmm ;)

Impossible! He has no synapses. He mistreated them like he does his computers and they died, too.

But because of your carelessness, you have nothing to lose now, and if you cut into the plastic and make the notch rounded, it will probably hold up better than the original. And, as I said earlier, grind off the rough edges of the metal clip so they don't cut into the plastic.
> 2. Metal clips attached to screw probably not gonna work... I might > have a little bit of metal wire or a paper clip but I see no > possibility of attaching it...
A piece of metal wire (is there such a thing as non-metal wire?) is going to be much weaker. I don't see why a piece of flat steel, about 1cm wide, under the screw, with its end bent down over the hook area of the plastic, won't work, and if clearance with the screw is tight, just drill a countersink in the metal and substitute a flathead screw.
> So I don't want a shaky solution and this would be a very shaky solution.
It's not a shaky solution but a solid, practical one, and if you had reinforced both sides of the plastic that way before installing the heatsink clip, it's unlikely any plastic would have broken.
Grupos de notícias: sci.electronics.design, alt.comp.periphs.videocards.nvidia, alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.asus, comp.arch, alt.comp.hardware.pc-homebuilt
Ok, putting a metal "clip" under the black plastic to reinforce it might be a nice idea...
It would look like so:
/\ <- screw ?! ---- |||| /===|||| <- black plastic \===|||| ------|||| ^ |||| | metal clip ?! ;)
I see two potential problems with this:
1. The metal clip might shoot out.
2. The metal clip might bend...
Furthermore I don't think I have a metal clip that's that small and could fit... I might look around to see if I see something... but for now I am happy with the stock AMD CPU cooler which is held up perfectly ;) and little risk except maybe reduced cpu cooling... but motherboard temperature seems ok... I haven't tested yet with high end games though...
So I am not a metal expert and I have no metal cutting skills or equipment ;) :)
Also I fail to see how the metal clip might be attached to the screw...
However maybe a clip from a pepsi/fanta can might do the trick ? But I think it's probably to big to fit through the holes of the cooler clips ! ;) And possibly to weak.. it's probably aluminium...
Maybe "soldering" some thing wire to the metal clips might hold the metal clips in place... though I think it could break off...
If anything breaks off or shoots out then the cpu cooler would come crashing down and could damage the graphics cards... I do have a backup one though... but it could also maybe damage the motherboard itself... or bend some pci slots or so... and graphics card might shoot out and damage soundblaster which I do not really have a spare for ;) nor do I wanna damage it ;) :)
The whole idea of a cpu cooler coming down and crashing stuff is a scary thought ! ;)
I think the whole design of the Scythe Zipang cpu cooler was bad from the start.
1. Airflow obstruction 2. Weight 3. Clipping system depending on millimeters of weak black plastic. 4. Even packaging says not to use it for "high cpu loads" which is a pretty good indication that they know it "sux" ;) :)
For now I wonder which cpu cooler is better so for now I will be using the stock AMD CPU cooler...
Again I thank you for thinking about solutions... (it might come in handy in the future some day in case I wanna try it or need it ! ;))
Maybe you could make a picture of your solution and show it... it kinda sounds like you have experience with it ? ;)

I have two of those heat sink mounts as spares...readily available on E-bay as well. If you think that mounting system is bad try the new socket 775 stock coolers with the "one time use" expanding plastic pins! the last build I did I ended up using bolts and nuts instead....from an erector set of all places! Calm down it's not the end of the world. What's the cpu, and what should the average operating temperature be?

I've fitted a fair few socket 775 stock coolers and I've not yet come accross 'one time use' pins. Removal and refitting can be fiddly, granted, but I've yet to break any pins. Now socket 478 mounting brackets, that's a different matter!

That's because you have it EXACTLY wrong. The metal clip goes on top of the plastic, not under it. I would put it directly under the screw, after bending the metal so it follows the contour of the plastic under it (probably two bends, the first 20-45 degrees downward, the second so the metal is vertical with the outer edge of the plastic). The metal backs the plastic. Fill gaps with epoxy putty if more strength is needed.

With a hole through it, of course. Why do you think, when you suggested there might not be enough clearance, I answered that the hole could be counterbored and a flathead screw used?
> However maybe a clip from a pepsi/fanta can might do the trick ?
You have an interesting thought process.
I'm talking steel, not aluminum, 1-2mm thick, like the kind used for rear brackets of computer plug-in cards or the covers for unused slots (the flat covers, not the ribbed ones). Also hardware stores and hobby shops sell small pieces of steel, and stainless is stronger than regular steel (and harder to cut and drill).

You don't need to solder anything, and regular solder (i.e., not the kind with high silver content that needs an oxygen torch to melt it) is too weak.
As I said, you have an "interesting" thought process.

So why did you pay extra for something that you screwed up? I just used the coolers that came with the Phenoms and have no problems at all. I thought it was much more difficult to change coolers on Athlon socket 462 yet I never broke one, even the one that got switched out testing processors and changing coolers.
