Zone alarm is to slow. Comodo was working fine with my system and that it all of sudden shut down monitoring. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but it still keeps happening. I downloaded the latest version of Comodo also. Is there any other freeware firewall that is good?

Give Sygate 5.6 a try. It's very well-behaved. Once you learn how to go into the "properties" window for each application and neuter it by turning off "server" and so on, it is safe. It gives full stealth on Gibson's Shield's Up.
