Thanks both. 'Load custom file types' is enabled (and 'Load only
associated types while moving through directory' is unchecked). But
the long list of 'custom types' does already include AVI.
I've also just tried the 'Load Default Extensions' button, which at
first sight makes only minor changes. And AVIs are still not being
played as I step through.
Strange ...
--------------------
I was going to pack in and leave this until the morning, but I just
tried a different folder and that worked OK! I'll study closer
tomorrow but I *think* the folders that don't work are those which are
sprinkled with proprietary files from my video editing program, Magix
Movie Edit Pro Plus (MEP). Whenever I import an AVI xyz.avi into MEP,
it places a small file called xyz_avi.avd into the folder too. (Don't
ask me to explain why!) I suspect that's somehow interfering with
IrfanView.
Reinforcing that suspicion, I just copied a few JPGs and AVIs out of
the main folder into a new one, without the AVD files. IrfanView
played the AVIs fine ;-)
Very obscure! I'll post about this in the MEP forum. If anyone here
has any further theories or insights, I'd appreciate them please.
